American and Canadian colleges and universities generally require students from non-English speaking countries to show proficiency in English through the Test for English Proficiency Test, commonly known at TOEFL. The new IBT TOEFL is going to be significantly different from the existing TOEFL tests. To perform well on this test, students should be familiar with the format of the test as well as techniques for responding quickly. In this course, the instructor will teach strategies students can use to improve their performance on this test. The instructor will cover the language, listening and writing components of the test. She will discuss the new listening requirements that require students to understand not only what is said, but also how it is said, e.g. angrily, sarcastically, humorously etc. This is a very economically priced TOEFL preparation course, which on an hourly basis costs much less than that of most language schools.
Instructor: Frances Fister-Stoga is a linguist who speaks more than five languages and has taught in the U.S., Canada, Europe and Japan. She has been a lecturer at the University of Tokyo since 1992.
Improving TOEFL Performance

アメリカとカナダの大学は、母国語が英語でない国からの学生に対して英語力を図る目的でTOEFLの提出を求めています。新しい形式のiBT TOEFLは、従来のTOEFLとかなり違った形式になっています。この新しい形式のテストでよい結果を出すには、学生は早く回答できるというようなテストテクニックの他に、テスト形式を良く知っておく必要があります。このコースでは、より高い点が取れるようにテスト対策、英語そのものやリスニング、ライティングなどを講義します。また、新しいリスニング形式（何を聞いたかだけではなく、どのように聞いたか、たとえば怒っている、皮肉っぽく、ユーモラスに、といった感情）に関しての講義も行います。他の語学教育機関に比べて受講料を低価格に設定してあり、取り易いクラスです。

5ヶ国語以上を話せる言語学者。アメリカ、カナダ、ヨーロッパ、日本などで教授経験がある。1992年より東京大学にて講師を務めている。
