Language Level: Intermediate to Advanced. In this course, student will learn how to write effective college-level essays. No one writes English well the first time. Students need to mold their essays from rough ideas to smooth-flowing essays. Often it takes three or four drafts to create a reasonably good essay. Professional writers usually write even more drafts. Ernest Hemmingway reportedly wrote 25 drafts of the final chapter of A Farewell to Arms. In this course, students will learn to develop ideas into drafts and complete essays. The course will be student-centered and reflect the needs of the students. The emphasis of this course will be on developing the essay structure with a proper introduction, body paragraphs and conclusion. Instructor: Dr. Alan Brender is an educator with many years experience in Japan and has written TOEIC test questions for ETS as well as presented TOEIC workshops for major Japanese corporations.
