LOC/FILM 1 • (Wednesdays 19:00-21:00)
This course explores social trends and changes in America during the 20th century as reflected in films such as City Lights, Scarface, Casablanca, Saving Private Ryan, Dr. Strangelove, Far from Heaven, Breakfast at Tiffany's, The Graduate, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Do the Right Thing, American Beauty, and Crash. These films create a window into modern American culture, allowing us to examine and discuss race, class, gender, family, war, social change/protest, capitalism, and historical memory. Class will be mainly discussion of films and clips.

Lakeland College professor Derek DiMatteo loves sharing with students his enthusiasm for American cultural studies, literature, and film. He brings humor and reflection to this course, combining experience as an American citizen with the analytical distance of an expatriate.

このクラスでは、20世紀のアメリカで公開された様々な映画や映像を鑑賞し、時代の移り変わりや社会の変遷について考察します。『カサブランカ』『プライベート・ライアン』『ティファニーで朝食を』『カッコーの巣の上で』『アメリカンビューティー』『クラッシュ』など、当時の世相が反映された映画の数々は、現代のアメリカ文化を知る上でガイド的な役割を果たしてくれます。階級、ジェンダー、家族、戦争、社会的変革や抗争、資本主義、そして人々の記憶に残る歴史的な出来事などについて、映像を楽しみながら理解を深め、自身の考えを発信できるようになるでしょう。
講師：デレック・ディマティオ
ディマティオ氏は、現在レイクランド大学ジャパン・キャンパスで教養課程の教授を務めています。アメリカ文化研究、文学、映画への関心が強く、その魅力を熱意をこめて受講生と語り合います。アメリカ人としての実体験と、研究者としての冷静な分析を融合させながら、ユーモアたっぷりの授業を展開します。面倒見がよく本学の学生にも人気の高い教授です。
